Operational Strategy

Operational Strategy to Advance the Business Strategy

3 min read

As a manager in a business organization, you are no doubt dealing with the challenges of cutting costs, driving efficiency, shortening delivery and service times, and optimizing resources.

You also know that an organization that wants to win in a changing environment has to hold a range of resources and an operational infrastructure that give it the flexibility and the speed of response it needs. That infrastructure has to carry your long-term strategy and, at the same time, answer the day-to-day challenges: new competition, regulatory change, technology change, shifting raw-material prices, and everything else the business environment throws up on any given day.

7I’s helps its clients strengthen their operations by implementing advanced working methods, in a way that serves and advances the organization’s business strategy in both the short and the long term.

What is operational strategy?

Operational strategy is the filter through which the methods for producing and delivering the goods or services offered to the customer are defined. It is the full set of decisions that shape the long-term capabilities of every operational function in the organization, and its contribution to the overall strategy, while matching and balancing market demand against resources.

Can you picture a car with no steering or gearbox?

Operations in an organization are like a car that runs on its parts – engine, wheels, steering, brakes and so on – and lets the executive team drive it from where it stands today to its destination.

That is possible only when every operational function works on its own and all of them work as a whole, matched to the environment and to the goals they operate in.

In the same way, companies and organizations that produce and supply a product or a service, whether for profit or not, rely on a stack of processes to make that product or service well and efficiently, and to deliver it on time.

Each of those processes is an operational function the organization cannot do without. The more effective those processes are, the better coordinated, and the better matched to the organization’s goals and to the environment it operates in, the more productive and the more profitable the organization will be.

Optimizing operations across the organization

Lean – efficiency improvement and embedding the culture across the production and supply chain

We are committed to building an organizational culture in which efficiency and the effectiveness of the system are part of every employee’s responsibility. Our experience has shown that an organization can create a lasting employee commitment to efficiency, to spotting and creating opportunities, and to continuous improvement. Lean projects run as organizational culture deliver considerable efficiency improvement, better service and significant savings in operating costs, with no headcount cuts.

Improving the effectiveness of sales and service operations

Optimizing the resources in service and sales operations makes it possible to get the most out of the selling and service skills the organization already has. We bring our clients tools for managing resources optimally and for shortening and simplifying service and sales processes; capturing the opportunities will improve service and grow sales with no additional resources.

Management measurement and control – a tool for advancing the organization’s targets

The expanding world of BI is producing new sources of information for the executive team and for the organization. We help our clients build measurement and control systems that fit the organization’s strategy, synchronize the different functions, create a common language, and become a management instrument for direction, steering and control on a focused path to the targets.
